A new memorial bench has been purchased and installed in the memorial garden at St James’ by Russell Wanless and his family in memory of his wife Inge, who passed away in September 2025. The St James’ family have fond memories of Inge and the bench is a welcome addition to the garden.
The bench was blessed by our Interim Priest in Charge, Rev Audrey O’Brien Stewart at our Sunday service at the end of August and we were glad that Inge’s husband Russell and other members of the Wanless family (pictured to the left of the bench above) were able to join us.
Inge’s husband Russell remembers:
“Inge and I moved to Bishopbriggs in December 2003 to be near our daughter. I came to St. James in January and then two weeks later Inge came along with me reasoning that I had gone with her to the German church in Edinburgh for 58 years. After coffee on her first visit she found where the brush and shovel were kept and swept the hall floor. It didn’t take her long to be integrated into the church life joining the Mothers’ Union. In her 20 years in Bishopbriggs, she joined a knitting group and soon had a group of friends who met once a month for coffee. She did make an impression!”
