Paul Watson was instituted as our new rector on Saturday 26th August. Do have a look at the photos on facebook. It was good to see the church really full for this very special service. We were delighted to welcome some members of Paul’s previous congregations in Aberdeen, and others from St Ninian’s Pollokshields where he had trained as a curate, as well as family, friends and well-wishers gathered from far and wide. We are really pleased that Bishop Gregor was able to come and take his full part in the proceedings as his recovery develops.
Paul was previously the Rector of St Devenicks, Bieldside and St Clement’s, Mastrick in the the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. He trained in Scotland and served his curacy at St Ninian’s, Pollokshields before spending time in Sri Lanka.
Before coming to St James the Less, Paul wrote:
It is good to finally write to you and bring you greetings from Ina and I. It is quite fitting that this is being announced on Pentecost Sunday, when we celebrate both the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. A new season awaits us all as we journey and grow together over the coming years. Ina and I are sure about God’s call to come and serve you as your Rector and are very grateful for the generous and open-hearted way that your vestry approached the interview and selection process. We are very aware of how much we have to learn from all of you and your long experience of witnessing faithfully in an area that will, too, become our home shortly.
Meanwhile, be assured of our prayers in the coming months that you will make the most of what remains of this very rich interregnum period and that God will inspire you with a vision of himself and his love for you and the community within which you live.
With my kindest regards,
